John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions through his songs of pop-folk, many of which were based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in affection with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Many people took the road towards Colorado after hearing Denver's popular tunes for the state he was raised in. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated that John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fames' initial inductee, was honoured with the award in the year 2011. Denver is now the embodiment of Colorado for people all over. In my travels, I've met people from New Zealand or the other side. If you inform people you're from Colorado, the first words they say are"Oh John Denver. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff wrote the song with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver saw an early rendition he knew right away it was destined to be a hit single. The singer recorded the song only a few days afterward following a performance to the awe-inspiring crowd at Washington D.C.
